Project
Nottingham City | Last Orders Phase 1 | Framework Housing Association's Brief Advice Service
Description:
Commencing in September 2008, Last Orders, the Framework Housing Association's Brief Advice Service, delivers a training, identification and brief advice service in primary care and other identified areas. The service is designed to provide ongoing support to ensure primary and allied health care staff are trained and confident using identification and brief advice. Targeted staff consist of GPs, nursing staff, midwives and health education staff.
The service tailors training packages according to the size and occupation of the target audience and is currently exploring options to involve service users in training to provide a more 'human' context to learn from.
Besides identification and delivering brief advice, training also covers awareness of alcohol services in Nottingham and uses interactive teaching methods such as role-play.
The service aims to assist in creating clear treatment pathways and ensure primary care staff refer appropriately. The service will eventually provide extended brief advice via clinics for hazardous and harmful drinkers (rather than dependant drinkers). The Clinical Nurse Specialist will offer 6 extended brief advice sessions and also provide triage for the clinic.
This project also feeds into Nottingham PCT's current work developing a Local Enhanced Service (LES), involving incentives for GPs to identify patients drinking at hazardous and harmful levels and refer appropriately.
