What is HubCAPP?

The Hub of Commissioned Alcohol Projects and Policies (HubCAPP) is a collation of local alcohol initiatives throughout England and Wales. The Hub has a particular focus on capturing the policies, decisions and strategic history that enabled projects to come into existence.

The Hub will contain a wealth of information about each initiative including: aims and objectives, costs and staffing. The Hub highlights what projects exist and how they link to local and national strategies to meet government targets and indicators. The inclusion of project history will show how the alcohol initiatives were commissioned or received funding, why alcohol was prioritised as an issue in an area and what the outcomes were.

This information will prove invaluable to those working in the alcohol-harm reduction field and those planning or funding new initiatives.

What are its aims and objectives?

HubCAPP aims to provide senior decision makers at regional and local level with evidence-based knowledge on alcohol harm prevention and treatment interventions, linked to current Government policy and guidance.

Its objectives are:

  1. To collate and disseminate evidence of localised or regional practice in relation to alcohol harm prevention and interventions.
  2. To enable health stakeholders to share local/regional practice and therefore enable them to investigate further opportunities for implementing similar practice in their areas.

How is it funded?

HubCAPP was commissioned by the Department of Health and is being developed and managed by Alcohol Concern.

What types of alcohol initiatives are included on the Hub?

The Hub is funded by the Department of Health and therefore is particularly focused on health-related initiatives and those projects that aim to reduce the harm caused by alcohol-misuse. Other initiatives, such as arrest referral; criminal justice and youth projects (or those in schools) will be included where we are informed of them. Due to lack of available resources these projects will not be actively sought out by the HubCAPP team.

HubCAPP aim to collect as many examples and as much information about projects taking place in England and Wales to reduce alcohol-related harm. Local Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategies are also being sought and uploaded to the HubCAPP database, if you would like to submit your work you can do this using the online form www.hubcapp.org.uk/submit.php.
