Swanswell's Netmums Project
Date: April 2009 to March 2015
Government Region: West Midlands
PCT: Heart of Birmingham Teaching PCT
Aim:
Swanswell’s ground-breaking project with Netmums aims to deliver vital drug and alcohol advice and support to up to half a million parents who use the popular website.
By offering the advice and support online, the pioneering service aims to make help available to many hard-to-reach people who are reluctant to come forward via more traditional methods, such as visiting a drop-in centre, GP or even calling a phone helpline.
Objectives:
- Test the potential to make drug and alcohol advice and support available to users of established social networking sites by offering it to the 500,000 parents who use the Netmums website
- Meet many of the seven High Impact Changes recommended by the Department of Health to reduce alcohol-related harm, and contribute towards achieving the others
- Make alcohol and drug advice more accessible to a wider population including many hard-to-reach individuals or groups
- Raise alcohol and drug awareness
- Pioneer a new method of delivering advice and support that is available 24/7
