The Addenbrooke's Hospital | Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Research Study and Pocket Guide project was undertaken to establish what antenatal advice was given to expectant mothers about FAS and alcohol intake in pregnancy. Subsequently, a pocket guide was produced and sent to midwives, accompanied by a letter discussing the principal research findings.

This project uses Offender Health Trainers to deliver Identification and Brief Advice to prisoners. The pilot programme ran in the East of England region prisons and in Hampshire Probation for one year from April 1st 2009 to March 31st 2010.

The service will deliver tier 2 and tier 3 harm minimisation interventions, deliver an effective aftercare programme to maintain recovery, offer consultancy and specialist advice across treatment tiers 2 and 3 to any agency requesting it, as appropriate. If an individual has been referred to the service and has been accepted for treatment provision, a comprehensive alcohol misuse assessment will be conducted. This will include an assessment of risk, as well as assessment of alcohol related harms.

In 2008 NORCAS worked with Cambridge Health Evaluation Consultancy to carry out exploratory research in Suffolk to understand young people's use of alcohol and their behaviours and attitudes to alcohol, part of the Young People and Alcohol Project commissioned by Suffolk Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
