The Bath | Project 28 Alcohol and Sexual Health (ASH) project is a focused Identification and Brief Advice (IBA) strategy aimed at young people who are currently drinking at increasing risk and high risk levels and are sexually active. The project also provides health professionals with the innovative IBA skills and resources. In-volve work with young people (YP) across England with substance misuse problems, in a variety of commissioned services addressing prevention, education and treatment. Project 28 is a young people's drug and alcohol project of which ASH is an active part.

This project set out to quantify the number of alcohol-related patient attendances at two hospital Emergency Departments (ED) within the United Bristol Healthcare Trust and to investigate how inter-agency sharing of anonymised data could contribute to reducing alcohol-related harms.

The Devon Alcohol Service provides a single point of referral to treatment by multiple routes. It covers tiers 1 to 4 and is spread over three local areas. It has outreach provision in GPs surgeries, community hospitals, community mental health premises and local voluntary agencies.

This programme delivers brief motivational interviewing to offenders who have been charged with an alcohol-related crime. Participants attend their local alcohol service for either two one-hour sessions with a counsellor or a two hour small group session with two alcohol workers. Sessions are aimed at helping participants understand their behaviour when drinking, aspects of the offences; effect of alcohol and how to avoid high pressure situations.

In 1999, the Independence Trust (as that time Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Service [GDAS]) and the Gloucestershire Constabulary launched the Alcohol Arrest Referral Scheme project (AARS). The scheme, the first of its type in the country, is not cell based and aims to minimise additional work for Custody Staff.

As part of the work developed within the Swindon Alcohol Strategy, Swindon Borough Council piloted this Alcohol Education Project aimed at Year Nine pupils. The positive evaluation has led to plans to continue the initiative in October 08.

United Bristol Healthcare Trust (UBHT) appointed a full-time Alcohol Nurse Specialist (ANS) in October 2006. The full-time role was developed after a part-time pilot in the Hepatology Unit had proved cost-effective through a reduction in readmission rates and had led to positive health outcomes.

The 'Drink Less 4 More Success' campaign was launched on 27th April 2006, at Bristol City football ground. The project was the culmination of nine months of partnership planning work between the PCT, the Bristol Drug Strategy Team, police, Youth service and two local young people's projects.

A new primary care alcohol service was set up by Torbay Care Trust in October 2007. The aim of the service is to reduce the level of hazardous, harmful and dependent drinkers within Torbay.

Working in collaboration with young people and with Cornish film-makers, Trelya created a series of 8 very short films about young people drinking alcohol. Each short film tells a story about drinking and has a caption which was designed to get young people thinking about keeping themselves safe if they drink. These short films are then texted to young people's mobile phones.

A series of "guerrilla" screenings of the films in towns in West Cornwall were also delivered.

This was also followed alongside alcohol training events for youth professionals and a parental education campaign.
